Video: Sheffield Wednesday play waiting game on forward duo

CARLOS CARVALHAL will give key Sheffield Wednesday pair Fernando Forestieri and Gary Hooper as long as possible to prove their fitness ahead of Tuesday night's Championship home encounter with relegation-haunted Bolton Wanderers.

Forestieri missed Saturday’s FA Cup third-round win over Fulham with an injury and while fellow forward Gary Hooper also missed the tie as he was denied permission by parent club Norwich City - a knock ensured that he would have been struggling, even if the Canaries had let him play.

Meanwhile, the Owls head coach did not comment on reports that Bolton midfielder Mark Davies is on the verge of joining the club.

Reports have also suggested Jack Hunt’s loan move will be turned into a full-time switch very shortly, with Carvalhal believing that it is ‘close’.

Carvalhal, also optimistic regarding the chances of Barry Bannan agreeing contract extension, said: “If it is very near to close, it’s good to us.”

Sergiu Bus and Marco Matias are back in training, but not nearer 100 per cent fitness levels, Carvalhal said.
