A wholly indifferent season, which saw the Blades miss out on the play-offs despite a hefty wage bill by League One standards and a fair amount of expectation with serial promotion fixer Nigel Adkins at the helm, ended with an insipid 11th-placed finish which saw Adkins paid the price with his job - with his side behind the likes of Scunthorpe United, Rochdale and Burton.
Consistency in terms of selection and performance proved a bugbear and while the Blades knocked on the door and were in play-off contention for parts of the campaign, they fell short in the final analysis and could have few complaints.

Hide AdHome form was again patchy and some poor performances also arrived on the road, with sections of the club’s support losing faith by season’s end.
The one player who could look back on a productive campaign was Billy Sharp, who caught the eye on his return to his boyhood club with 21 goals and who has been handed the captain’s armband as part of Chris Wilder’s brave new world.
