IT MAY HAVE been another season when Huddersfield Town finished in the bottom half of the Championship, but the positivity was much easier to detect at the John Smith's Stadium for much of 2015-16.

Most definitely post-autumn, thanks to the impact made by German head coach David Wagner, who certainly knew the secret of winning friends and influencing people judging by his impact following his arrival in West Yorkshire.

A moribund pre-season was extended into the real thing under Wagner’s predecessor Chris Powell and while the job he did was unquestionably solid, there was a perceived lack of elan in terms of his team’s performances - with that being one of the reasons behind the club’s reason to part company with him.

Wagner’s employing of a high-octane ‘geganpressing’ game, with an intense work rate accompanying fast-paced football has won many admirers since his arrival, with several players including key striker Nahki Wells having bought into the methods of the progressive head coach.

While results have not exactly been consistent on the pitch, fans have also warmed to the style of Town under Wagner.

A number of stylish performances stood out including a thrilling 4-1 derby win at Leeds.

After helping to construct an identity for Town, the next task for Wagner is to marry it up with more consistent results, with a 19th-placed finish following on from finishes of 16th, 17th and 19th in the club’s previous three seasons at this level.
