Wagner delighted as Harry Bunn extends Huddersfield Town deal

DAVID WAGNER has paid tribute to Harry Bunn and said he is the prototype of player that he wants to work with in the future at Huddersfield Town.

The 23-year-old has signed an extended deal at the club, securing his future at Town until the summer of 2019.

Head coach Wagner believes the workaholic forward can provide inspiration to young academy players aspiring to make the leap up to the first-team regular as Bunn himself has.

Wagner said: “I am very satisfied about Harry signing a new contract. It’s an example for everybody to how important our Under-21 team is, and he is a player from that team who has got and used the chance to become a first-team player.

“I like Harry’s style. He is a very important player and likes to work and defend, which is not normal for an offensive thinking player.

“He is exactly the type of player I like and prefer. He has responsibility for the team, which is very important, and a good guy.”

Meanwhile, Wagner has cast doubt over whether he will renew loan defender Elliott Ward’s deal after Christmas following his return to complete his loan spell.

Much-travelled Ward, 30, joined Town on loan from Bournemouth in an emergency loan deal in September, but returned to his parent club after picking up a knee injury in the televised loss at Wolves in October. Ward had signed a loan deal to return before the November 26 emergency loan window deadline and will be available for Town for the next two weeks having returned to West Yorkshire.

Wagner said: “He will be part of the squad, but needs time to develop his fitness after his injury. He wasn’t on the pitch, but in the gym with us (yesterday) after a hard training session (on Wednesday). He is not in my mind for Saturday.

“I don’t know what will be in the future. We will have to see and build up his fitness. I am very satisfied at the moment with the players in this position.”

“Crans (Martin Cranie) has done very well, also Huddy (Mark Hudson) and Murray (Wallace) is very good in training and Joel Lynch is back this week, his first full training week.

“In this position, we don’t have an emergency at the moment.”

Wagner will assess the fitness of several players before tomorrow’s game with Bristol City.
