Wanted man Stock to be offered new Rovers deal

DONCASTER ROVERS manager Sean O'Driscoll has told Swansea City that captain Brian Stock is not for sale.

The Welsh international is entering the final year of his contract at the Keepmoat Stadium and has emerged as a target for new Swans manager Brendan Rodgers.

O'Driscoll wants Stock to stay and is ready to offer the 28-year-old midfielder a new deal.

"I have spoken to Brendan Rodgers and told him we are not looking to sell," said O'Driscoll.

"Brian is fully aware of the conversation and nothing further from Swansea has since appeared.

"He's in the last year of his contract – so it becomes a difficult time for players and clubs – but we are in the process of negotiating a new deal."

Stock began his playing career under O'Driscoll at Bournemouth and the pair were reunited at Doncaster four years ago when O'Driscoll paid 125,000 to secure his services from Preston North End.

O'Driscoll confirmed that he is also in contract talks with defenders James Chambers and James O'Connor and midfielders Martin Woods and James Coppinger.

"All are in the last years of their contracts so it is important that we start a process that has an end," he said. "The players would like that, too, and the process is currently ongoing."

O'Driscoll hopes to complete the signing of former Burnley and Southampton defender Wayne Thomas in the next 24 hours.

Thomas has been on trial with Rovers but also has other clubs interested in his signature.

Rotherham United have signed defender Exodus Geohaghan on a one-month loan deal from Peterborough United.

Manager Ronnie Moore moved for Geohaghan, 25, after full-back Dale Tonge was ruled out for several months with a broken metatarsal.

The Millers were already resigned to starting the new season without full-back Johnny Mullins (calf) and strikers Tom Pope and Ryan Taylor, all of whom are nursing broken metatarsals.
