Antonsson is to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with Leeds after United agreed a fee with his current club Kalmar. His move from Sweden is likely to be sealed before the end of the week.

Leeds want to sharpen their attacking edge under new manager Garry Monk next season and Antonsson – a player who worked with new United assistant Pep Clotet at Halmstads in 2011 – is one of several strikers on their radar.

Leeds United latest: Antonsson set to sign; Roofe deal in doubt

The Elland Road club are increasingly hopeful of persuading young Manchester United forward Ashley Fletcher to quit Old Trafford for West Yorkshire when his contract expires at the end of this month, a move which would cost Leeds a fee in compensation.

United have also shown a keen interest in League Two player-of-the-year Roofe but sources at Elland Road have told the YEP that the club see Oxford’s valuation of him as excessive.
