The Terriers are hoping to unveil Mark Robins’s successor during the international break after an exhaustive search.

Chris Powell, Steve Pressley and Billy McKinlay are believed to be in the running for the post and Lillis, the club’s Academy manager, wants to hand over the reins on the back of a positive to match Town’s 2-1 win at Reading 11 days ago.

Ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road, Lillis said: “Watford are an excellent side and they will be challenging near the top all season. But I want the focus to be on us, and on what we can do to them.

“It will be a challenge for us, but we have shown that we can compete on the road with our performance at Reading.

“I want the team to believe in their abilities and be positive.

“We have good players at this club. We just need better quality in the final third because, defensively, we have been okay.

“We have got good ball players including Conor (Coady) and Jacob (Butterfield) and I want to see us moving the ball quicker up the field.”

As Jack Robinson links up with the squad for the first time following his midweek arrival on loan from QPR, Lillis has played down speculation linking Sean Scannell with a possible move to Millwall.

On Robinson, a 20-year-old left-back who moved to Loftus Road from Liverpool just a day before joining Town, Huddersfield’s interim chief said: “He is an exciting talent and he comes here with plenty of pedigree having been schooled at Liverpool.

“Harry Redknapp believes in him and he believes in us to help continue his development.”
