Wedding bells put Treacy’s involvement in doubt

Keith Treacy arranged his wedding for what he expected to be a blank weekend for club football.

The ex-Burnley winger has revealed that his impending nuptials, which take place next Friday and were arranged before he signed for the Reds in the summer, has jeopardised his involvement in next weekend’s Yorkshire derby with Bradford City.

But with the fixture put back 24 hours from its original Saturday slot, Treacy plans to speak to Danny Wilson and may still feature, with his wife-to-be having given him consent.

He said: “When I first met the gaffer, I had actually (already) arranged my wedding to be in the international break because at the time, I thought I was having another year at Burnley. So I sorted it all out on the understanding we would be off anyway.

“When I met Danny, I said I had been silly in sorting out my wedding (for October) and I told him. He said if that is the only stipulation that will not help me sign a contact, then no (don’t worry).

“It looks a little bit silly in terms of organisation, but I have been saving up for this for years.

“It has just fallen awkwardly and people have to understand we are human beings.

“She has actually said to me I can play on Sunday if I want. I don’t think I will be here, but I will speak to the gaffer because the game was arranged on the Saturday and now it has been put back to the Sunday and I am getting married on the Friday. So if the gaffer wants me, I will do it.”

The Reds have boosted their ranks ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Rochdale, managed by old manager Keith Hill, by completing the signing of Fulham winger Ryan Williams on a one-month loan.

They are also close to re-signing ex-loan defender Peter Ramage from Crystal Palace, with Wilson also keen on Fulham striker Marcello Trotta.

The Reds are in need of a fillip after three defeats in their past four matches and a run of five games without a league win, but Treacy has urged fans, especially those on social media, to be patient.

He added: “For me, it is ‘do not go too high or too low with the lows’.

“If we do win on Saturday, there will probably be stuff on Twitter or people coming to me saying we are making the play-offs and going to get promoted.”
