Central payments from the Premier League, guaranteed parachute payments if relegated and increased commercial income make up such a huge sum.

If, however, the Yorkshire club can buck the trend of staying up after winning promotion via the play-offs – 15 of the 25 clubs promoted this way since the advent of the Premier League have gone straight back down – then even more cash is heading their way.

It is a scenario few at the John Smith’s Stadium could have dreamed about last summer and one the entire town is expected to celebrate today as the promotion heroes take their bow via an open-topped bus tour.
