The Whites signed the 23-year-old centre-forward in January on a half-season loan from RB Leipzig with an obligation to buy him for around £20m if they won promotion.

But Augustin did not meet coach Marcelo Bielsa's exacting standards when it comes to the fitness of his players, appearing for only 48 minutes spread across three substitute appearances. Leeds decided against bringing the forward back for the extended end of the season.

This summer, The Elland Road outfit broke their club record transfer fee to bring Spain centre-forward Rodrigo to West Yorkshire for £27m.

In finding another club, Augustin has saved them an unwanted bill or a legal battle to avoid having to pay for it.
