The 27-year-old has endured a frustrating time at Hillsborough since joining on loan from Sunderland last summer.

He has just two league starts to his name, the second of which came in last Friday’s defeat at home to Reading. Despite that, Buckley believes he can banish the frustration of a campaign that has included time out through injury once the Championship season resumes following the international break.

“There have been a few injuries and not much game time this season,” he added. “But, hopefully, I can kick on now in these last eight games, get a few more minutes under my belt and get back to my best. Friday was my first start for a while now after the injury and I just have to get back to a good level.

“He (Carvalhal) has said from the start that he believes in me and I have just got to try and take my chance now when I get it. I am nowhere near match sharpness yet but, hopefully, I can get that in these last eight games.”

Wednesday’s loss to Reading opened the door for Fulham the following afternoon to step into the play-off places and nudge the Yorkshire club down to seventh.

The Cottagers, however, lost 3-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers so still trail the Owls by a point.

“We were all disappointed (after Reading), but we have eight games left now and we have got to try and win every one,” added the winger. “We are still in a great position and it is up to us now to go and nail down that position and see what we can do.

“Everybody knows the league. At home everyone expects us to win, that’s why the fans were disappointed after Reading. But we have got to come back and go again.”
