Winning at Lane was a career high point – Clark

LEE CLARK admits Huddersfield Town’s stunning midweek victory at Sheffield United was “definitely one of the results of my management career”.

But the Terriers chief is at pains to stress ahead of today’s visit to promotion rivals Milton Keynes Dons that is already confined to the history books.

Town make the trip down the M1 buoyed hugely by Tuesday’s 3-0 triumph at Bramall Lane, a result that propelled Clark’s side up to third.

A second huge test of the week now awaits Huddersfield against a Dons side who sit just one place below the Yorkshire club in the League One table.

Clark said: “It was definitely one of the results of my management career.

“They have kept many of their players from the Championship but we executed our game plan to the letter.

“The Sheffield United game has gone now, it is history. The focus is now on another huge game for us against MK Dons, a team that at the moment is playing very well.

“I enjoy going to MK Dons, it is a fantastic club and they have a brilliant stadium. It will be a proper match.”

Ahead of today’s mouth-watering contest, Dons manager Karl Robinson has suggested that his side are underdogs against Town.

Clark, however, refuses to be sucked in by Robinson’s words.

He said: “Both teams are in good form. I see Karl Robinson and John Gorman have both been playing the old mind games lately, saying that they are underdogs going into the game.

“But we know it will be tough,” he said.

“Karl and I are both very ambitious people and I imagine our aims are to be playing each other next year in the Championship.

“He has done a terrific job there and wants to improve with them.”

Town produced one of their displays of the season last April at stadium;mk to triumph 3-2.

It came during the club’s stunning end to the campaign that, but for Southampton being in even better form, would surely have resulted in automatic promotion.

This time around, Clark is determined his side go one better than last term when they lost the play-off final to Peterborough United at Old Trafford.

With Milton Keynes likely to be among the main challengers for automatic promotion, today’s clash has been billed as potentially hugely important for both football clubs.

Clark, however, said: “It is still very early in the season and nothing will be decided following the result.

“They will come out of the traps very quickly and we will have to be ready for them.”

Both Huddersfield and MK Dons have claimed 16 points from the opening eight games, Town being higher in the table due to having a goal difference that is superior by just one.
