Wolves 1 Huddersfield Town 3: Beckford is Premier League class, claims Robins

TWO goals inside a minute by Jermaine Beckford gave Huddersfield Town’s survival hopes a major lift on an afternoon of drama at Molineux.

The Terriers striker had only been on the field five minutes when he put the visitors ahead with a trademark finish from close range.

That came on 69 minutes and less than 60 more seconds had elapsed when Beckford struck again, this time with a sublime piece of skill to turn Roger Johnson and then chip the ball beyond Dorus De Bries.

It represented a stunning turnaround for Wolves, who had taken the lead on four minutes through Stephen Ward and had dominated the opening exchanges.

A change of formation by Mark Robins, however, then allowed Huddersfield to regain a toehold in the game as Sean Scannell fired in a stunning equaliser.

Beckford’s quick-fire double in the second half put Town firmly in charge before jamie O’Hara saw red after pushing Keith Southerhn in the face off the ball.

It capped a miseranble afternoon for the locals, who chanted ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’ as their side slid back into the bottom three. Adding to the frustration was a simple chance that Johnson had squandered with the scores level at 1-1 when it seemed easier to score.

Robins was full of praise for Beckford afterwards. He said: “You can’t ask anymore from him and that from him is what you expect. That is him. You got a cameo there of why he played in the Premier League.

“He is Premier League quality and he has Premier League talent. What is frustrating for me at the moment is that I want to see that more often.

“I really want to see him performing like that. I think he owes that to himself, his family and the supporters who are paying money to watch him.

“It is a shame if he doesn’t perform like that. He is an outstanding talent. We saw that against Wolves and hopefully we can get that out of him for the rest of the season. He was absolutely superb.”
