The 23-year-old Frenchman, who operates at both left-back or midfield, could make his debut against Derby County tomorrow.

Helan who has made 22 appearances for Wednesday this season, arrived from Manchester City in 2012 but has failed to cement a first-team spot. His last start for the Owls was on December 28.

Daniel Pudil is the No 1 choice at left-back, while Joe Bennett has arrived from Aston Villa to provide back-up.

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett said: “He’s an attacking player and has a lot of pace and power, which is something we need in either position. We’re very pleased to add him.

“He gives us natural balance on the left side, we’ve had a considerable amount of injuries down there.

“He can play wide left or at left back. I think he’s capable of both and he’s comfortable in either depending on the system that you play.”
