York 1 Wycombe 1: Late twist means Vadaine Oliver's goal is only good for a point

TOP scorer Vadaine Oliver's first goal since before Christmas was not enough to secure a precious victory for York City.

The ex-Sheffield Wednesday reserve took his season’s tally to 10 and ended a 16-game personal drought by giving the Minstermen a half-time lead.

But the hosts conceded an 89th-minute equaliser to Wycombe substitute Matt Bloomfield and had to settle for a share of the spoils against their play-off chasing visitors.

Second-bottom York have now ‘lost’ 28 points from winning positions this term. Manager Jackie McNamara said: “It was another game we deserved three points from, but had opportunities to put the game to bed and we needed to be more clinical.”

Chairboys goalkeeper Ryan Allsop also merited credit for keeping his team in the contest with fine saves to deny Lewis Alessandra and Luke Summerfield.

Allsop was quick off his line to smother at Alessandra’s feet following James Berrett’s through ball, before Oliver grabbed his 35th-minute opener.

This time, Alessandra was the architect, spinning on the ball to send Oliver through on goal and the 24-year-old forward beat Allsop with a low shot.
