York City 0 Luton Town 0: Minstermen starting to stutter

YORK CITY dominated Blue Square Premier promotion rivals Luton Town but were forced to settle for a point in a goalless draw at Bootham Crescent.

James Meredith hit the crossbar and Neil Barrett saw a header cleared off the line as the Minstermen peppered visiting goalkeeper Mark Tyler's goal in the second half.

But the Hatters clung on for a fortunate point to extend an amazing run of eight clean sheets in a row on their league travels.

Alex Lawless went closest to opening the scoring for York in an entertaining first half, the former Forest Green midfielder narrowly missing the target with three decent efforts from the edge of the box.

At the other end, Rossi Jarvis had York goalkeeper Michael Ingham at full stretch to keep out his long-range drive.

The Minstermen dominated the second period with Meredith seeing a thundering, 35-yard effort rattle the crossbar.

Barrett also had a header cleared off the line by Luton defender George Pilkington and then missed a glorious chance when he fired over eight yards out.

Luton were second-best for long periods although substitute Matthew Barnes-Homer shot wide on 77 minutes when he should have done better.
