York City 1 Salisbury City 2: York fail to get better of jinx side Salisbury

York City suffered another blow in their hopes for promotion as they crashed to their fourth defeat in five games to bogey team Salisbury who have never lost to the Minstermen.

The home side had the advantage of a first-half lead but Salisbury hit back after the interval to snatch the points.

York were without David McGurk because of injury and his usual partner Danny Parslow was on the bench as was midfielder Levi Mackin who scored York's consolation goal at Forest Green on Saturday.

York relied on too many long balls in the opening half hour which produced little goalmouth action although Richard Brodie went close with a shot which drew a fine save from James Bittner.

Djoumin Sangare blocked Jake Reid's shot in a rare Salisbury raid before York went ahead in the 38th minute. Courtney Pitt came on for the injured Chris Carruthers who was fouled on the left and Neil Barrett swung over the free kick which Sangare flicked home at close range.

The game livened up in the second half and after Michael Rankine had seen his centre headed away from under the bar Salisbury equalised on 54 minutes with a magnificent 30-yard cross shot from Reece Connolly. Then Luke Ruddick put in a vital tackle to stop Brodie.

Salisbury took the lead after 65 minutes when Brodie's error near the halfway line allowed Salisbury to counter attack and Darryl Clarke beat Michael Ingham with a low cross shot.
