York City 2 Exeter 0: On-loan Bradley Fewster nets double to lift York out of relegation zone

YORK City climbed out of the League Two relegation zone as Bradley Fewster's brace secured this home win over Exeter City.

The on-loan Middlesbrough forward struck in each half and also earned the Minstermen a third straight victory at Bootham Crescent.

Fewster’s first goal came on 35 minutes when he fired a low shot past Bobby Olejnik from 15 yards after Russell Penn and Michael Coulson had combined to tee up the chance.

The visitors almost hit straight back when Jayden Stockley headed against the crossbar from Tom McCready’s corner.

Stockley also headed over an empty net after beating home goalkeeper Scott Flinders to Matt Oakley’s cross on the stroke of half-time.

After the break, York survived a scare when Flinders had to save McCready’s right-wing cross under his own crossbar.

But the home side went on to double their advantage on 64 minutes.

Kenny McEvoy’s charge down the right flank was halted, but Lubo Satka found Fewster with the loose ball.

The 20-year-old striker then poked a low 15-yard shot into the bottom-left corner of Olejnik’s net.

The confident hosts might even have added a third, but Olejnik saved well from Coulson late on.

The Minstermen leapfrogged Yeovil Town with victory, and now have a two-point cushion over the bottom two in the Football League.
