York City 2 Southport 0: Constantine breaks Southport stalemate

YORK CITY left it last last night before scarpering with all three points in their Blue Square premier meeting with lowly Southport.

The seaside club rarely showed much ambition and frustrated the home fans with time-wasting tactics.

But up popped substitutes Leon Constantine and David McDermott to give Gary Mills's side another three points as they climbed into the top half of the league table.

Constantine sent Steve Dickinson the wrong way from the spot in the 88th minute after David McDermott's shot was blocked by Liam Blakeman's hand.

And moments later, Danny Racchi crossed for McDermott to head in at the near post and seal the victory.
