York City: Believe in yourselves, Minstermen are told

YORK CITY manager Jackie McNamara questioned his side's self-belief after their 2-1 home loss to runaway leaders Northampton Town.

Goals from James Collins and John Marquis enabled Chris Wilder’s peerless Cobblers to record their 10th League Two win on the trot - with Russ Penn firing an eye-catching consolation in stoppage-time.

The loss ditched the Minstermen back in the relegation positions following Yeovil’s draw with Plymouth in their West Country derby.

McNamara, whose side welcome Luton on Saturday, said: “I think some of our players’ heads went down at 2-0 and they lost their way and that’s all about having belief.

“Northampton have it and know they are going to win, but I feel some of our players need to see us score the first goal before they get that confidence.

“We still caused them some problems. Brad Fewster and Michael Coulson both had good chances in the second half and Penno scored a wonder goal to give us a bit of hope but, unfortunately, it was too late.”
