The Minstermen took the lead after Luke Summerfield’s 20-yard shot took a wicked deflection, only for Sean Maguire to level.

Jake Hyde pounced to restore York’s advantage with 15 minutes remaining.

But just as it looked like the visitors would hold for a vital three points, Josh Windass netted in the 89th minute with a free-kick.

The draw leaves York just point off the bottom two.

“I’m devastated because I thought we had the game in the bag and it’s so cruel again,” said York manager Russ Wilcox.

“I feel like I’m saying the same things after each game.

“But again, game management. We’ve got to do better and keep our shape and discipline and don’t give free-kicks away on the edge of the box.

“Is it a point gained? No, it’s two lost but the lads are giving everything for this club.”
