Braintree 0 York City 1: Tonne delivers Minstermen a play-off spot

York City beat Braintree in the Blue Square Premier to clinch their place in the play-offs.

Goalkeeping coach Paul Musselwhite started for York at Braintree looking to avoid the fate that has recently befallen two of their main play-off rivals in Essex.

Luton and Gateshead lost 3-1 at the Amlin Stadium during the run-in but York are confident of maintaining their push for a place in the top five. Michael Ingham (shin) was out after missing Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Cambridge, so Musselwhite again steps in.

It took until 75 minutes for the Minstermen to open the scoring, Erik Tonne finding the target after good work from Jason Walker.

Victory leaves York four points clear of sixth-placed Kidderminster with one game remaining.
