blue SQUARE: York City manager Gary Mills acknowledges today’s opponents Braintree have been the ‘surprise package’ in this season’s Premier League.
Written off as 150-1 outsiders by bookmakers at the start of the season, the newly-promoted Essex club sit fourth, just four points behind leaders Wrexham.
“They’ve surprised everybody,” said Mills. “I don’t think they’ve feared anyone and sometimes that works. Some teams start the season in the same manner that they finished the last one and they’ve done that very well.”
Victory would enable York to leapfrog Braintree in the table and Mills’s options will be boosted by the return of David McGurk and news that Trinidad and Tobago international midfielder Andre Boucard has recovered from a groin strain suffered last weekend against Stockport County.
“It’s all about big decisions as a manager,” Mills added. “I will have to make the ones that I believe will get us a result. It’s a massive match because they’re two points ahead of us.“
