The West Yorkshire-based 50-year-old arrives at The Hawthorns as part of a shake-up that has also seen Dave Kemp reunited with his former boss.

Jewell has not worked in football since leaving Ipswich Town in 2012 but he did come close to joining Pulis when he was in charge of Stoke City.

His first game on the Baggies’ coaching staff will be against Hull City on Saturday. Pulis added: “Paul is someone I have known for a long time. When I thought about what I wanted for this post, he fitted the bill perfectly.”

Jewell’s former club Wednesday, meanwhile, can reach the play-offs, according to goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.

The Owls sit four places and six points off the top six but former England international Kirkland, who played in the heartbreaking FA Cup defeat at Manchester City on Sunday, believes Stuart Gray’s side should not be discounted.

He added: “We have got a chance. We take it one game at a time. We’ve got a tough game against Forest coming up but the way the gaffer prepares us and the way the lads are gives us a chance.”

Owls defender – and Guinea international – Kamil Zayatte has departed England in preparation for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The tournament begins on 17 January and runs through to 8 February.

Meanwhile, York City have extended the loan deal of Norwich City striker Carlton Morris.

The 19-year-old has made four appearances from the bench for the Minstermen. He had been due back at Carrow Road after joining the League Two club shortly before the end of November.

Morris’s extension into February follows the loan capture of Peterborough United goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik.

Burnley had recalled Alex Cisak after he had started the last ten league games, prompting Russ Wilcox into action. Michael Ingham is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Barnsley’s League One clash at Scunthorpe United, postponed last Saturday due to the FA Cup, has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 24, kick-off 7.45pm.
