Goals from Wes Fletcher, Michael Coulson and Jake Hyde earned the Minstermen their fifth away win of the season, having started the night hovering above the bottom two on goal difference.

Former Blackburn striker Jordan Slew had forced the first save of the night when he fired at York goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik, having been released through the left channel by Ryan Donaldson.

York made the breakthrough on 43 minutes after a strong run down the left by Josh Carson.

He picked out Fletcher, who drilled a low 15-yard shot into home goalkeeper Chris Dunn’s bottom right-hand corner.

York refused to sit on their lead with Brad Halliday flashing an early 25-yard drive wide before the visitors doubled their advantage on 49 minutes when Coulson’s right-wing cross dropped inside the far post.

Slew then missed a sitter at the other end before Hyde pounced from three yards on 55 minutes to turn in a scuffed Fletcher shot.
