Cambridge Utd v York City: Minstermen must keep picking up points – Wilcox

Despite sitting joint second bottom, York City manager Russ Wilcox points to the fact that his side have earned a positive result in three of their last four games as a sign of a team making progress.

Two of those were draws, starting at Luton two weeks ago and finishing with Saturday’s goalless draw with Exeter.

But the fact that they are proving hard to beat fills Wilcox with belief that his side can preserve their Football League status.

“Yes it was a little bit frustrating on Saturday against Exeter but when you’ve been on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat the week before it’s important to keep a clean sheet,” he said.

“We’re on a decent run, picking up points in three of the last four games and if we can continue that until the end of the season then we’ll be fine.

“We have to look on the positive side. It can be all doom and gloom at the bottom of a league but we’ve been down there all season so it’s important we stick together.

“It’s fine lines and small margins at this level. There’s a couple of outstanding teams but for the rest it’s about who’s good enough on the day. We’ve been competitive three out of the last four, and while we’re not dusting over the Northampton defeat, that is encouraging.”
