Goals from Josh Carson, Luke Summerfield and Michael Coulson earned the Minstermen maximum points at Carlisle just two days after Accrington were seen off 1-0 at Bootham Crescent.

Russ Wilcox’s men were full value for their triumph against a Carlisle team bidding for a third straight success.

Jake Hyde threatened twice during the early stages of a one-sided first half, shooting narrowly wide from the edge of the box and also forcing a sharp near-post save from Carlisle goalkeeper Dan Hanford.

Captain Russell Penn also went close from 20 yards before Carson opened the scoring on 44 minutes having only been recalled to the side after on-loan Sheffield United striker Diego De Girolamo withdrew from the starting line-up during the warm-up due to a foot injury.

Carson scuffed an eight-yard shot across Hanford into the bottom corner after Wes Fletcher had headed on Femi Ilesanmi’s left-wing cross.

After the break, York continued to force the pace and doubled their advantage on 68 minutes when Summerfield’s excellent 20-yard left-footed effort curled inside the right-hand upright.

Ex-Barnsley winger Coulson went on to add an unflattering third for the visitors, blasting into Hanford’s top left-hand corner from 10 yards after exchanging passes with Carlton Morris and Hyde on 81 minutes.
