Fixtures: York City handed trip to Tranmere in seasonal opener.

NIGEL WORTHINGTON’S York City will travel to the Wirral to face relegated Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in their curtain-raiser to the League Two season in 2014-15.

The game on August 9 will see Minstermen signing Jason Mooney return to his former club in new manager Rob Edwards’ first match in charge of Rovers.

York’s first Bootham Crescent encounter of the campaign is against Northampton on August 16, who they welcomed in their first league game of last season.

York face attractive home clashes with Luton on September 16 and Portsmouth on October 4 and make the trip up the A19 to Hartlepool on November 22.

Minstermen skipper Russ Penn and key defender Keith Lowe make their return to Whaddon Road to face old club Cheltenham on November 1.

The Minstermen’s Christmas fixtures see York visit David Flitcroft’s Bury on December 26 and welcome Accrington Stanley on Boxing Day. Worthington’s side end the calendar year with a trip to Brunton Park to face Carlisle United on December 28.

York kick off 2015 at home to Plymouth Argyle on January 3.

City’s Easter appointments see them play host to Cheltenham on April 4 and make the trip to Oxford United on Easter Monday.

York welcome Hartlepool on April 11 with their final home match of the campaign being at home to Newport County on April 25.

They end the season with a long trip to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth on May 2, with the Minstermen having done the double over Pompey last term.
