The German striker, down the pecking order at the KC Stadium, is expected to leave East Yorkshire on loan shortly, although interested clubs may have to wait next week for City to move him out due to their weekend FA Cup commitments.

Star striking duo Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long are both cup-tied and with loan forward Danny Graham ineligible and also attracting interest from several Championship sides including Nottingham Forest, Proschwitz may be utilised by Steve Bruce in the fourth-round tie at Southend this weekend.

Rovers are also in the market for Forest frontman Matt Darbyshire, who is expected to move on shortly.

On his hunt for a new forward at Oakwell, Reds boss Danny Wilson said: “We’re close to a couple (of strikers).

“The search is ongoing. I’m hoping something drops this week, but we’re not 100 per cent on them yet.”

Meanwhile, Sheffield United’s bid to sign Blackpool defender Bob Harris has been dramatically shelved at the 11th hour.

The Scottish full-back, who spent a loan spell at Rotherham United last season, was expected to sign for the rest of the season, with a deal seemingly agreed - only for the Tangerines to block the move.

The Millers are concentrating on bringing in some midfield targets before the end of the window following the captures of utility man Miles Addison, forward Wes Thomas - both from Bournemouth - and West Ham winger Blair Turgott, who spent a spell at Bradford last term.

Boss Steve Evans has also revealed he has received several enquiries for out-of-favour forward Danny Hylton, who spent a loan spell at Bury earlier this term.
