Gatehead 3 York City 2: Shaw bites the hand that used to feed him
And to rub salt into York’s wounds, the match winner was Jon Shaw, one of their former players who scored his second hat-trick of the season.
York’s defence always looked vulnerable against the quick Gateshead attacks down the flanks and only good goalkeeping by Michael Ingham prevented a heavier defeat.

York drew level after 23 minutes. Andre Boucaud’s long cross-field pass wasn’t cleared and Jamie Reed released Jason Walker who cleverly chipped Paul Farman.
Gillies centre from the right saw Shaw score with a flying header. and Gateshead went further ahead after 67 minutes when Shaw completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot following Jon Challinor’s foul on Odubade. It was a sixth penalty conceded by York in the last seven matches.
Ingham made two fine saves from Odubade before York narrowed the gap three minutes from time when James Curtis headed into his own goal from Adriano Moke’s corner.
