Chairman Assem Allam has been locked in a bid to change the Premier League outfit’s name to ‘Hull Tigers’ since the start of 2013-14.

The FA Council initially rejected the controversial move, which led to protests from supporters, a little under a year ago but Hull challenged the decision and it was set aside last month.

That left the way open for the East Riding club to once again apply to alter its playing name in time for next term.

To do so, however, City had until yesterday to make clear that intent and a letter was formally delivered to the FA’s headquarters at Wembley on the club’s behalf during the morning.

It remains unclear if City will table their original application or submit fresh paperwork, but the decision will again hinge on the vote of the FA Council after consideration from the FA’s Membership Committee. In last April’s vote, the bid was rejected by 47 to 27.

Meanwhile, Rotherham United have extended the loan stay of Daniel Lafferty from Burnley until the end of the season. He has made four appearances for the Millers.

Manager Chris Powell had hoped to have Bunn back against the Owls but has now admitted: “We have to make sure he is right.”
