York City are up into the play-off places in the Blue Square Bet Premier after hitting fellow high-flyers Braintree for six.

The Minstermen made a blistering start with four goals in the first half, before weathering a second-half storm to secure the points.

Ashley Chambers gave York the lead with his fourth goal in six games in the 15th minute.

And the Minstermen doubled their advantage on 28 minutes through Patrick McLaughlin.

Then Jamal Fyfield made it 3-0 in the 37th minute as Gary Mills’s side assumed complete control before McLaughlin grabbed his second just three minutes later.

Sean Marks gave Braintree faint hope with a goal a minute into stoppage time at the end of the first half.

And the threat of an improbable comeback was alive on 62 minutes when Aswad Thomas pulled a second goal back for Braintree.

But York’s top scorer Jason Walker snuffed out any chance of a revival with the fifth, blasting home a penalty on 72 minutes for his 11th goal of the season.

David Stevens was sent off for the foul on Matty Blair that led to the penalty.

And Adrano Moke brought up the half dozen on 85 minutes as York regained their complete dominance of the match.

The three points takes Mills’s side into fourth on 26 points, four points off leaders Gateshead.
