Norwood’s ambitions lead him to join Town

Manager Simon Grayson said: “Oliver turned down a number of clubs to be a part of our team and I believe he will be a key player for us. Manchester United offered him a new deal but he wanted to leave to pursue his career which says a lot about him.”

Northern Ireland international Norwood, 21, played Championship football last season on loan with Scunthorpe United and Coventry City.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Mark Beevers has signed a new two-year deal at Hillsborough. Beevers, 22, joined the Owls as a teenager after being rejected by his hometown club Barnsley, and has now made over 150 appearances for the club.

Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson is keen to bring Leicester’s teenage striker Jeffrey Schlupp to Bramall Lane on loan next season. The Blades are also tracking Wycombe’s Stuart Beavon.

Steve Agnew has quit his role as Middlesbrough’s reserve team manager to become Steve Bruce’s assistant-manager at Hull City.

Agnew, 46, previously worked on the coaching staff at Leeds United and played for several clubs including Barnsley, Sunderland and York City.

Striker James Hayter has joined Yeovil after being released by Doncaster Rovers.

Newly-promoted York City have signed midfielder John McReady from Darlington.

McReady, 19, joins Oli Johnson and Lee Bullock in moving to Bootham Crescent this summer.

York defender James Meredith, meanwhile, has joined League Two neighbours Bradford City on a two-year deal.

The Australia-born left-back, who can also play in the centre of defence or midfield, is Bradford’s fourth summer signing following the arrival of Gary Jones, Rory McArdle and Andrew Davies.
