Parslow puts York on way to Underhill win

YORK City strolled to an easy victory against a young and inexperienced Barnet team at Underhill Stadium after controlling the game throughout.

It was the Minstermen’s first win in the Football League since 2004 when they were relegated to the Blue Square Bet Conference.

There was never any doubt about the outcome, York pressing from the kick-off and subjecting an uncertain Barnet defence to a torrid 90 minutes.

Sterner tasks lie ahead, initially on Saturday when they entertain unbeaten League Two leaders Oxford United.

Danny Parslow, who has played at right-back, centre-back and central midfield in the first three games of the season, gave another outstanding display and he set York on the victory path after seven minutes when he took Jason Walker’s pass to shoot low past Liam O’Brien from just outside the penalty area.

Ashley Chambers ran through the middle onto another pass by Walker on 16 minutes to thunder a rising shot past the helpless O’Brien.

On 30 minutes Jon Nurse took advantage of Danny Blanchett’s failure to tackle Andrew Yiadom to score from close range from the winger’s low cross.

Michael Coulson made it 3-1 on the stroke of half-time after turning in little space near the penalty spot.

Barnet have avoided relegation in the last three seasons by winning their last match. On this evidence another salvage operation may be needed.

York manager Gary Mills said: “We played well and I was delighted with our first win, although disappointed that we didn’t keep a clean sheet.”
