The 22-year-old defender, who could make his debut in the Yorkshire derby against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, has joined on a 93-day emergency loan from Swansea.

Town were desperate to add strength to their rearguard after Jack Hunt was sold to Crystal Palace and Calum Woods was injured.

“With Jack Hunt’s departure and the recent injury that Calum Woods has suffered, we were looking to increase our options in that area of the pitch and Jazz is exactly the type of player we have here at the club,” said Terriers manager Mark Robins.

“He is young, but has good experience of the Championship with Swansea City and last season’s loan at Crystal Palace and now he is hungry for more.

“Swansea play good passing football and he fits the mould when it comes to playing in our side.

“He has a lot of quality both technically and physically and we’re delighted to have him at the club.”

Richards has chalked up almost 50 games at Championship and Premier League level with Swans and Crystal Palace, where he had a loan spell last season. He featured for the Swans this season in the Europa League against Malmo.

Richards – who can play full-back or midfield – has won international honours with Wales at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level and made his senior debut in a 2-0 defeat to Mexico in May 2012.

York City have re-signed Northern Ireland winger Josh Carson after the 19-year-old was released by Ipswich Town.

The teenager played five games on loan for the Minstermen last term before a broken leg saw him return to Suffolk.

“We have offered a deal to Josh Carson, which he has accepted,” said York manager Nigel Worthington.

“Subject to a medical and international clearance he will be joining the club later this week.”

Carson was released on transfer deadline day by Ipswich, for whom he played 33 times in three years at Portman Road.
