PREMIER LEAGUE newboys Hull City are set to launch a bid to sign Wigan Athletic’s Honduran defender Maynor Figueroa - according to reports.

The Honduran, 30, is out of contract and was due to sign for West Ham next month until Hammers boss Sam Allardyce made an about-turn and completed the signing of fellow left-back Razvan Rat, from Shakhtar Donetsk.

That has opened the door to a move from the Tigers, whose manager Steve Bruce worked with Figueroa at the DW Stadium.

Bruce, understood to have missed out in a move for Blackpool defender Alex Baptiste, has also been linked with Charlie Austin at Burnley, West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie and veteran striker Kevin Davies, recently released by Bolton.

New Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov is busy getting to work after being unveiled at the Keepmoat Stadium on Monday night, with the Scot tipped to raid old club Oldham Athletic to sign centre-half Jean Yves M’Voto and midfielder Joe Baxter.

Dickov, tipped to use his links with Manchester City to secure loan deals, is expected to also complete the permanent signing of Dean Furman, on loan at Rovers in the final months of last term.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday have scotched talk of a move by Barnsley to sign Chris O’Grady - who spent the second half of last season on loan at Oakwell - back to the Reds.

Released York City midfielder Scott Kerr is a target for Grimsby Town.
