Wagner’s philosophies at Huddersfield Town are music to Nahki Wells’s ears

The Bermudian netted in last weekend’s fine 2-0 victory at Birmingham City, the club’s maiden win of Wagner’s tenure, and the forward is confident that Town are heading in the right direction under the German.

Wells, who says he has been enthused by Wagner’s footballing credos, said: “We are definitely heading in the right direction.

“It’s a pleasure to play in this team and I’m back to enjoying football again.

“I’m actually getting a chance to play a style of football which I’ve always watched in envy from the bigger teams in the world.

“We are trying to put that platform and blueprint into place, and we are doing quite well at it at the moment.

“It’s expansive attacking football, playing good football on the ground, defending from the front and creating chances and scoring. To be in a side doing that is definitely a joy to be involved with.”

Rejuvenated Doncaster Rovers forward Andy Williams has been nominated for the League One Player of the Month for November, along with Bradford City goalkeeper Ben Williams.

Striker Williams hit four goals during the month to take his seasonal tally to eight, while his Bantams namesake kept six clean sheets in all competitions.

The other nominees are Coventry’s Jacob Murphy and Peterborough’s Jermaine Anderson.

Barnsley will host Fleetwood in the first leg of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy northern section final at Oakwell, with the game due to take place in the week commencing January 11.

But with both sides out of the FA Cup, the game could potentially be moved forward to January 9.

The second leg is due to be staged at the Highbury Stadium in the week beginning February 1.

Ex-Leeds United defender Stephen Crainey, who had been training at Barnsley, has joined AFC Fylde.

York City defender and reigning fans’ player of the season Keith Lowe has left the Minstermen by mutual consent.

Lowe, 30, had fallen out of favour after starting Jackie McNamara’s first game in charge – a 3-2 FA Cup loss at Accrington Stanley – when he was substituted at half-time.
