Worthington wants York to ‘force the issue more’ starting at Argyle

But that is the task facing the Minstermen today as they take on Plymouth Argyle at what seems certain to be a wet and windy Home Park.

The Pilgrims insisted yesterday that there were no concerns over the match going ahead and no inspection is planned.

Despite that, the conditions seem likely to be heavy as York look to take a further step away from trouble against a side sitting just three points above them in the table.

Worthington said: “We have had a reasonably good start to this year. I have been happy with our performances, but I think we need to force the issue a little bit more.

“Reuben Reid is a handful and we have to be aware of him. We need to control him and control the wide areas.

“Whatever the conditions are they will be the same for both teams so it is about getting your mental attitude right.”

York headed to the south west yesterday buoyed by the news that Josh Carson had signed an extended contract to keep him at Bootham Crescent until the end of next season.

The midfielder joined York last summer after a brief loan spell with the League Two club last term.

His impressive form this time around has led to a new contract, and Worthington is backing Carson to continue to develop.

Plymouth, meanwhile, go into today’s game in decent form in Devon after losing just once in 11 home games.

Argentinian playmaker Andres Gurrieri is in line for a return after a three-game ban, but Argyle will definitely be without Luke McCormick, striker Marvin Morgan, former Bradford City defender Guy Branston and striker Matt Lecointe.

Worthington said: “I know John (Sheridan, Plymouth manager) well and his teams will always pass the ball. They also work hard and we will have to do the same.”

Goals have been scarce at Home Park this season, just 25 having been scored in 15 league outings for Plymouth.
