Former Frickley forward gave City a dream start with an opener early on, but the lead proved short-lived.

After York’s sixth-minute opener, which came after Thompson got on the end of Luke Summerfield’s free-kick, the Stags levelled Krystian Pearce diverted Reggie Lambe’s free-kick towards and Green netted.

Vadine Oliver went close before Mansfield took the lead before the break when Craig Westcarr found Green who ran past Dave Winfield before firing a low 15-yard drive inside Scott Flinders’ near post.

James Berrett and Russ Penn spurned chances in the second half for York and Femi Ilesanmi headed over two chances from deliveries from Berrett.

Chris Clements almost added a late third for the Stags, but hit the post with five minutes left.
