York 2 Lincoln 0: Pilkington puts York on way to Imps win

PLAY-OFF hopefuls York City ended a run of three consecutive draws with maximum points at home to Lincoln City.

Goals from Danny Pilkington and Paddy McLaughlin earned the Minstermen a comfortable win – their first league success in more than a month.

York forged ahead in the fourth minute courtesy of Pilkington’s second goal of the season.

The former Stockport winger beat Imps goalkeeper Paul Farman with a 25-yard effort that deflected in off visiting defender Richard Hinds, a former Sheffield Wednesday centre-half.

Jamie Reed also volleyed wide for the Minstermen from Matty Blair’s right-wing cross on 10 minutes.

Lincoln, meanwhile, struggled to make a first-half impact on the game with their best offerings two chances for Conal Platt that failed to hit the target.

England C international Ashley Chambers should have doubled York’s lead early in the second half but fired wide from just five yards out.

The former Newcastle midfielder curled a 15-yard left-footed effort beyond Farman after good work by Blair.

Chambers also hit the bar as York cruised to victory and applied pressure on leaders Fleetwood Town.
