Only Scunthorpe have gleaned more away points than the Brewers this season and it was easy to see why as the visitors matched the Minstermen’s resolute defence.

Former Burton duo Russell Penn and Adam Reed had fine games in central midfield for York but it was goalkeeper Nick Pope who was outstanding behind central defenders Keith Lowe and John McCombe.

Lee Bell made an important block on Boro loanee Ryan Brobbel in the early stages and the feet of goalkeeper Rob Lainton stopped Ryan Bowman’s shot on the turn near the interval at the near post.

Burton, however, went the closest when Billy Kee, who moments earlier had tried a ‘Rooney’ from near halfway, volleyed against the bar in the first half.

Pope proved unflappable after the interval, making a couple of fine saves.
