York City 0 Chesterfield 2: Victory at home against Chesterfield continues to be beyond Minstermen

CHESTERFIELD extended their unbeaten run to a 10th game with a comfortable victory.

Goals by Eoin Doyle and Gary Roberts sent the Spireites to the top of the League Two table and left the Minstermen without a win at Bootham Crescent against the Derbyshire visitors since 1990.

Chesterfield completely bossed a one-sided, first half and deserved their 2-0 lead by the interval.

It was an error by David McGurk, though, that gifted the Spireites their opening goal after just two minutes, the York captain failing to cut out a Roberts through ball and Doyle capitalised by shooting firmly past goalkeeper Nick Pope.

A brilliant save by Pope prevented Roberts from doubling the visitors’ lead moments later but the former Huddersfield winger did get on the scoresheet on 39 minutes when he finished confidently from Dan Gardner’s delivery.

Lanre Oyebanjo managed the Minstermen’s only goal attempt of the first 45 minutes but his volley was pushed behind by Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee.

After the break, Wes Fletcher lifted a rare chance over Lee but Doyle cleared the danger.

Spireites sub Marc Richards, meanwhile, should have been awarded a penalty after he was felled in the box by York left-back Ben Davies, but referee Darren Bond decided otherwise.
