York City 0 Rochdale 0: Worthington still waits for first win with York

YORK City’s run without a win stretched to 13 games with this draw against Rochdale.

The result leaves new Minstermen chief Nigel Worthington with just one point from a possible six since taking over from Gary Mills, who was sacked after York’s home defeat to Bradford City.

A poor first half at Bootham Crescent saw Jason Walker volley over an angled drive on 16 minutes shortly before a poorly-struck back pass by Jack O’Connell gifted Rochdale the best chance of the opening period.

George Donnelly, though, shot weakly at Michael Ingham to spare the teenage defender’s blushes.

Before the interval, Matty Blair and Walker missed the target from good opportunities.

Blair scuffed his shot wide of visiting goalkeeper Josh Lillis’s near post and Walker blazed out of the ground from eight yards.

An equally dismal second half meandered along with neither side threatening to make the breakthrough until York substitute Alex Rodman was inches away from getting on the end of Walker’s cross within seconds of his 72nd-minute introduction.

Late on, Rochdale’s Bobby Grant missed the target from distance before John McGrath saw a strong 25-yard strike tipped over by Josh Lillis.
