York City were held by Barnet today in their battle to stay in the Football League.

The Minstermen are seven points adrift of Hartlepool United - who have three games in hand - and Stevenage with just 10 matches remaining after today.

Lewis Alessandra, signed on loan from Rochdale this week, tapped in the rebound after a Jake Hyde shot had come back off a post.

But the Bees equalised when James Pearson’s low cross was turned home by John Akinde and that was how it stayed.

York boss Jackie McNamara said: “We deserved to win with the number of chances we created and, if we had got that second goal, we would have done.

“But the difference in terms of our fight and passion, after last week, was there for all to see. On another day we would have scored four or five goals.

“We had one off the bar and their keeper made two good saves from Danny Galbraith and Jake Hyde. We’ve taken a point but it should have been three.

“We could have still done things better, though. We lost our concentration and their striker nipped in front of our centre-back for the equaliser but I still believe we can catch Stevenage and stay up. That’s still possible.”
