York City 1 Tamworth 2: Minstermen suffer play-off setback

York City suffered a major setback in their bid to reach the Blue Square Premier play-offs today when they lost to managerless Tamworth.

It was York’s first home defeat since December as Tamworth eased their relegation fears.

Ben Wilkinson gave the Lambs the lead when he latched on to Christian Smith’s knockdown to poke home.

James Meredith nearly doubled the advantage only for Tom Marshall to clear off the line, before Kyle Perry made it 2-0 with a sweet angled volley.

Subsitute Leon Constantine pulled one back for the hosts with a last-minute header but it was not enough.

York now sit six points behind fifth-placed Fleetwood with a game in hand, while Tamworth move four points clear of the relegation places
