York City 2 Mansfield Town 2: Late Fyfield strike earns point for City

York City rescued an unlikely point when a tremendous late rally earned them a share of the spoils after going 2-0 down.

The point was enough to keep York in the play-off places despite taking only three points out of the last 12.

York manager Gary Mills said: “We are going through a thin spell and have fallen below the standards we set earlier. I think the players deserve credit for refusing to accept defeat and battling back so well.

Mansfield went ahead on 14 minutes when Keiron Freeman had time and space to cross from the left for Matt Green to score.

With few chances either way, the visitors increased their lead on 72 minutes when Green set up Aman Verma.

But James Meredith then centred from the left for Matty Blair to narrow the gap five minutes later before Jamie Reed saw his shot blocked.

Then, in the first minute of stoppage time, the equaliser arrived. Danny Parslow headed into the goalmouth and Jamal Fyfield calmly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Alan Marriott.
