York City v Yeovil Town: Best is yet to come from Berrett

YORK CITY chief Russ WIlcox is confident that midfielder James Berrett can continue to hit the goals trail after netting his second goal in Minstermen colours in a 1-0 win over former club Yeovil Town at Bootham Crescent.

Berrett’s deflected strike gave York a welcome first three points of the season and manager Wilcox believes that there are plenty more goals to come from the Halifax-born player, who joined the club from the Glovers in the summer.

Wilcox said: “He was a bit fortuitous with the goal but, if you don’t shoot, you don’t score and I think he’s getting better by the game.

“That’s two goals and I said he could do that for us when I brought him to the club.

“He’s got two already and he got double figures twice for Carlisle so, hopefully, he can do that for us.”

On the importance of the three points, Wilcox, who handed a debut to young teenager Ben Godfrey, added: “I’m delighted to get off the mark.

“We’re three points off the play-offs now and, while people might chuckle at that, it’s all about positive mindsets.

“We weren’t as fluent as we have been and didn’t play as much football but, even though it got a bit hairy-scary in the last five minutes, we saw the game out and kept a clean sheet.”
