York target treble to assist climb up table

But Gary Mills is today backing his side to take another step towards putting pressure on the sides in the play-off places by making it a trio of consecutive wins when Exeter City make the long trip north to Bootham Crescent.

The York manager said: “After two wins at home in a row, we now finally have a chance to push on. Our home form has been an issue this season so to win 4-1 and 3-0 (against Bristol Rovers and Burton Albion respectively) to take six points has been a big boost for everyone.

“With our next game being at home, we have an opportunity to try to make it three in a row and that would really help push us up the table.

“The difference between the Bristol Rovers and Burton games is we took our chances. Whether that is down to confidence or not, no one can say. But to get seven goals in two games can only help the players.

“We have continued to play the same way, but this time the chances have been taken. We need to keep that going.”

If York are to claim a third straight win on home soil for the first time since beating Luton Town, Braintree and Grimsby Town in the autumn of 2011 they will have to overcome an Exeter side chasing a fifth straight victory on the road.

York, meanwhile, are keen to extend the loan stay of Alex Rodman.

The 25-year-old has made seven appearances for the Minstermen, but is due to return to Aldershot Town after today’s game.

Mills added: “Alex had his best game on Tuesday (v Burton) and his confidence has got better and better.

“We are waiting to see what happens with Aldershot and we should hear something over the weekend.”

York’s desire to keep hold of Rodman has been strengthened by the news Ashley Chambers is out for up to six weeks with a torn stomach muscle.

Chambers, the club’s top scorer with eight goals, needs an operation and has already missed the last three games, during which time Rodman has deputised ably.
