York yield lead yet again and head for replay

YORK City will make a 250-mile, midweek trip to AFC Wimbledon looking to keep their FA Cup hopes alive following this draw at Bootham Crescent.

The Minstermen were also counting the cost of Saturday’s first-round tie following injuries to Deon Burton and John McCombe.

A knee problem for former Jamaican international Burton, now 38, seems certain to end prematurely his one-month loan stay from Scunthorpe, although the return to fitness of Wes Fletcher should lessen that blow for York chief Russ Wilcox.

Fletcher was denied twice during an extraordinary goalmouth scramble that also saw fellow attacker Michael Coulson thwarted during the final throes of an even contest.

Dons goalkeeper James Shea made a stunning double save from Fletcher and Coulson before the former was also prevented from forcing the ball over the line by covering defenders with all appeals for handball being rejected.

Wilcox said: “We had three or four chances to get the ball in and I think everybody in the ground was trying to will it over the line as well. We just need that little bit of luck in front of goal at the moment but we also need to keep pushing on when we go 1-0 in front.”

York failed to capitalise on a winning position for a sixth time this season after Jake Hyde’s third goal of the season was cancelled out midway through the first half by Andy Frampton.
