Yorkshire Post Team of the Week: Neil Warnock leads our band of heroes

A PLETHORA of draws ensued on Saturday, including in two Yorkshire derbies, but there were a number of individual performances that were far removed from being '˜middle of the road.'

Once again, it made for some head-scratching ahead of finalising upon this week’s ‘Yorkshire Post Team of the Weekend’.

Here it is:

1: Keiren Westwood (Sheffield Wednesday)

Did not have to pull saves out of his locker at regular intervals but what we did, he did exceedingly well.

Terrific first-half save to deny Craig Bryson and made two key blocks to deny Bryson, again, and Johnny Russell on the restart at Derby.

2: Stephen Kelly (Rotherham United)

Stout-hearted and resolute showing in the Millers’ backline at Molineux to help record a fifth clean sheet in six on-the-road outings.

3: Jay McEveley (Sheffield United)

Talking of clean sheets, McEveley did his best alongside David Edgar and Alex Baptiste to help the ‘they-shall-not-pass’ Blades claim a fourth shut-out in five outings in Saturday’s lunchtime Lane derby with Barnsley.

4: Andy Butler (Doncaster Rovers)

Outstanding the previous weekend against Wigan, the Donny lad produced an encore for good measure in a powerhouse defensive showing against Coventry. Rovers fans will be desperate for a replication against Crewe and Burton.

Ending a tough season well.

5: Marc Roberts (Barnsley)

Shone in a defence-dominated encounter at S2 and showed his mettle to deny Conor Sammon and Matt Done. Grasped his chance in the New Year following Kevin Long’s return to Burnley in outstanding fashion. Undeniably one of League One’s form defenders.

6: Tom Huddlestone (Hull City)

Followed up his strong performance at Huddersfield by pulling the strings in the derby cauldron against Leeds and struck a goal to boot. The Tigers will be heavily relying upon him come play-off time. Class act on his day.

7: Emyr Huws (Huddersfield Town)

Another accomplished performance in the middle of the park from the Town loanee, who has made countless friends during his time at the John Smith’s Stadium.

8: Tommy Rowe (Doncaster Rovers)

A super display from the Wolves loanee – he was here, there and everywhere for Rovers - just a shame he could not have arrived a few weeks earlier. Found the net for the second game running and was at the fulcrum all game.

9: James Hanson (Bradford City)

What can you say? A hat-trick inside 16 second-half minutes takes some beating. On his day, the lumberjack centre-forward is unplayable and he bullied Walsall’s harassed defences in the air.

10: Barry Bannan (Sheffield Wednesday)

Gilded his deserved place in the PFA Championship team of the year with a lovely opener midway through the second half, his delicious chip flying in off the underside of the bar.

Competing against quality midfield operators such as Will Hughes and Jacob Butterfield, Bannan was the star turn.

11: Stuart Dallas (Leeds United)

A good little spell for the Northern Irishman, who clinched a commendable point for United at Hull. Three goals in his past four games and the former Brentford man can reflect on a sound first season at Elland Road.

Manager of the weekend: Neil Warnock (Rotherham United)

There were several contenders, most notably messrs Parkinson, Ferguson and Evans, but the vote, on the occasion when his side mathematically clinched safety, goes to the ubiquitous Warnock.

Back at the end of February, if you had said then that the Millers - then six points adrift of safety - would have ensured their second-tier tenure with two games to go, many would have questioned your sanity.

Bravo, Neil.
